"Congratulations Acro Media on behalf of the entire staff here at the Economic Development Commission. Cheers, Shannon, Colleen, Tracey and Robert"
For Immediate Release: The Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) awarded three of its distinguished National Marketing Awards to the Economic Development Commission for the Commission's innovative website (www.investkelowna.com) and its Business Directory, 100 Reasons to Do Business in Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley. The Directory won two awards placing first in the Business Directory Category and won a Best of Category Award, representing the judges' choice as the best entry from communities with budgets between $201,000 and $600,000. Our Invest Kelowna website placed first for websites in the same budget category with the judges remarking on the website's fast retrieval of information. The Directory was designed and produced by Chris Arlidge of Kelowna's Steel Dolphin Creative (www.steeldolphin.com), and the Invest Kelowna website was created by AcroMedia (www.acromediainc.com), also of Kelowna. The Commission also received honourable mention for the Royal Bank of Canada Community Project of the Year for its trade show program for local companies. In presenting the awards, EDAC noted that the Economic Development Commission's marketing materials were "creative, innovative, attention getting, original and usable." Submissions were evaluated by a jury comprised of representatives from Canadian Business Magazine. The judges looked for entries that demonstrated "confidence and vision by the winning communities." A standard scoring system was used with marks for the following:
"We are proud of the work the Commission does each day and pleased to have national marketers recognize this as well," said EDC Chair Steve Burns. "On behalf of the Board, I congratulate our team and the Central Okanagan firms that helped produce the winning entries." EDAC is an organization that promotes ethics in economic development and strives to enhance the profile and economic development of provinces, territories, regions, cities, towns and areas with a view to improving the economic well-being of Canadians. The EDAC awards are created to share information between municipalities across Canada to help elevate the work produced by Canadian economic development agencies.
