BC forest fires caused massive destruction during the summer of 2003. The wildfire in Kelowna BC, where Acro Media is based, burned over 25,000 hectares of forest, the historic Myra Canyon Trestles and almost 250 homes over the span of 4 weeks. At one point 30,000 people had been evacuated from their homes due to the extreme risk posed by the fires.
When three out of the nine employees at Acro Media were evacuated from their homes due to the fires, Acro Media made the decision to donate its Canadian Web site address and ecommerce software to help raise funds for the Okanagan Fire Relief efforts. Over $15,000 in donations were generated through the Acro Media ecommerce Web site and given to the Salvation Army for their efforts. Today Acro Media continues to work with the City of Kelowna to help raise funds to restore the areas affected by the fires and re-build the Myra Canyon Trestles. Acro Media has donated a Web site and our ecommerce software to facilitate online donations for the City Trust fund — kvr.acromedia.ca

> POV: Download That Funky Music
Digital audio has become mainstream. Not only is it easy to use, but small chips are capable of storing your entire music collection, eliminating the need for extra furniture to store bulky CDs. Albums can be sampled with your computer online before deciding to buy them. Music can be transferred easily between devices via tiny media cards or digital cables. The biggest advantage is the ability to make exact copies.
But, record companies are losing money through file sharing of these copies. Well, the record companies are to blame. Besides the outrageous prices on albums, they're also responsible for pushing these new technologies, forcing us to buy our old albums in the newest format, again. DVD Audio is next, but this time you need a stereo system with 5 speakers instead of 2. Digital audio is their choice.
By the way, all the stink they're making about file sharing and it turns out they too are reaping the rewards from these file sharing networks. They have the best focus groups they could ever ask for by watching where in the world certain albums are being downloaded and working with Radio stations in those areas to increase audio play on those albums. They are now more targeted than ever, both making and saving money on the very thing they're trying to banish.
And lastly, the owners of the biggest file sharing networks are trying to work with the labels and leverage this successful system. Huge opportunities are being missed on the very technology they drove us too. That unfortunate factor of greed rears its ugly head again and messes things up.

> Let Your Web Site do the Talkin'
The Internet has extended the potential reach of every company while at the same time making it harder to reach each individual customer and grab their attention. Unfortunately there are no sure fire methods to guarantee success on the Internet, but there are two questions that every ecommerce company must determine an answer to in order to be successful. First of all, how do you get your Web site on the screens of the potential customers? You need to make sure that you are driving enough traffic to your Web site every day to give your product or service a fair chance. Once your traffic starts to build, how do you convert more of those Web site visitors into actual customers? The answer lies in your Web site and your ability to convey the value of your product or service to a potential customer you may never speak to. Being able to differentiate your Web site or product from the other Web sites competing for the same customer dollar.
An interactive demo is a powerful and effective way to demonstrate your product or service capabilities to Web site visitors and in turn convert them into customers. Web site visitors can watch an online demo quickly and easily to get a feel for what your company does and the value of your products. You have the unique opportunity to demonstrate your products or services without requiring the customer to make the first step of contacting you. As an added benefit, an interactive product demo looks very professional and can elevate the image of your company to a potential customer who is shopping around on the Internet. An interactive product demo can make the difference for many Web shoppers and convert them into your customers.
